The Formulation

Seed DS-01 contains 24 broad-spectrum strains, delivering 53.6 Billion AFU (Active Fluorescent Units—a more precise measurement than CFU). It also includes a non-fermenting prebiotic (punicalagins from pomegranate).

The Good

  • Strain Transparency: Seed lists the exact strain designations for all 24 microbes (e.g., Bifidobacterium longum SD-BB536-JP). This is the gold standard for labeling.
  • Delivery System: The nested capsule (a capsule within a capsule) is genuinely innovative and backed by SHIME (Simulator of the Human Intestinal Microbial Ecosystem) testing, showing near 100% survivability through simulated stomach acid.
  • Prebiotic Choice: Using a polyphenol-based prebiotic avoids the gas/bloating issues common with inulin and FOS in sensitive individuals (like those with IBS).

The Unknowns

While the individual strains have substantial clinical backing, testing 24 strains together in humans is complex. Seed is currently undertaking their own IRB-approved clinical trials on the final, combined DS-01 formulation to prove synergistic efficacy.
