Audit: Pendulum Glucose Control

A medical probiotic claiming to lower A1C and post-meal glucose spikes.

The Formulation

Pendulum is unique because it includes anaerobic strains that are incredibly difficult to manufacture, primarily Akkermansia muciniphila, Clostridium beijerinckii, and Clostridium butyricum.

The Evidence

Pendulum conducted a double-blind, placebo-controlled trial on their specific formulation in patients with Type 2 Diabetes. The results showed a significant reduction in A1C and post-prandial glucose spikes. It functions by restoring the microbiome's ability to metabolize fiber into butyrate, which stimulates GLP-1 (the same pathway targeted by drugs like Ozempic, though via a different mechanism and magnitude).

The Cost

Because growing strictly anaerobic bacteria requires specialized oxygen-free manufacturing facilities, Pendulum is extremely expensive (often >$150/month). It is a targeted medical intervention, not a general daily supplement.
